Quiet down now, beautiful little bygones.

Your melancholy harmony was you greatest allure.

When I walk away like a cowboy into the sunset, you’ll miss

The point, and that’s something I’ll have to live with.

I’ll throw around words of distaste like boulders,

Looking for the golden ruling, but I’ll never be able to speak my heart.

Down by the water hole, I have reflected more than a man does in a lifetime,

And I’ve found just as much, because there is only one answer, every time.

The past is Four Roses on the rocks, And after a few,

I’m drunk in memories. Though it’s easiest to forget.

Strangers will gather and help me sing this song,

That digs me deeper, closer to my grave.

The Aces of life I laid on the table doubled its value,

But the dealer knew better and rigged the river,

And all that time wishing for the jackpot,

Left me with nothing but kindly banter from the others being played.

Yes, the fear of untimely change can make a man’s paunch ache,

Biting fingernails and sleepless nights, snappy judgment, blind eyes,

Rest assured, everything will be alright.

But first things first, get through the night alive.

Today I’ll ponder mortality; tomorrow I’ll fight it.

And that’s the answer, every time.

Today I’ll drink and toast. Tomorrow I’ll find a new town,

And call it my own, until it’s time for my sunset again

Tied Up in the Hands of Time

Where does the time go?
Through seasons, bumps on the slide of life,
We age and die a little bit with passing seconds.
For what reason do I care, or you for that matter?
Do you have somewhere to be? Do I have unfinished plans-
These ideas seem devout to a belief.
But it’s all just a wheel on a car, until it pops and deflates,

Where does the air go?
Escaping like the rooms on fire.
Where does anything go?
The world spins, we’re going nowhere.
Wait- we’re going backwards!
Where does the time go, when you are spinning backwards?
Do we age the opposite way,
And are born into our old wed’s arms,
Or that train that couldn’t save you from that fall?

Where does the time go?

I stare at a watch, an expensive one, to track time,
But it’s the same as every watch,
Because it’ll eventually run out of battery,
Just like everything in time.
Through seasons, bumps on the slide of life,
Our time is precious, but I’m exhausted of hearing
That time whips us into place, wakes us up,
Rests our head.
I want to be free, to wake up when I want to,
And force my eyes to sleep when I feel it.
Do you like to be tied up in the hands of time?

Understanding How Love Works

Only in dreams, I write you love letters.

Dot my I’s with tails,

Cross my t’s with curves.

Writing so slowly, to avoid errors that could smudge

Your heart, and wipe it away of the reason I write this.

And when the sun dips behind the mountains,

I’ll hold you tightly on our front porch,

Humble hands holding you, while we rock back and forth.

It doesn’t matter what we do,

It doesn’t matter where we go,

I don’t want to know anything but this.

When morning comes,

Let us walk these crooked lands until our legs tremble,

Teeth chatter,

And frost coats our faces.

If my walk becomes limp,

And my worn sneaker slaps the shadowed road like a fart,

Just smile to yourself.

It was probably funny.

If our walk takes us to the heavens,

Let us go on detours.

Like the tip of a branch leading to its trunk,

We sway from the golden path,

There’s not enough excitement to keep our attention.

And if anything tries to divide us,

We will never be apart,

For in my memories

We’ll always walk these lands hand in hand.
